Susan Harriman joins UC Santa Cruz as Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports as of the 3rd of January 2018.
Prior to UCSC, Harriman was Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Women's Administrator at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine the past four years. At Bates she was in charge of day-to-day athletic facility oversight, and managing student staff. She also had direct oversight of Bates' Club Sports Program and was liaison to Bates' Advancement Office for on and off-campus fundraisers. She was promoted to Assistant AD after serving four years as the Director of the Friends of BatesAthletics, where she was instrumental in planning and coordinating fundraising. In her first year, she helped athletic giving increase by 136%.
Harriman earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Springfield College, and her Masters in Counseling Services from Rider University in New Jersey.
"I am convinced Sue is up to the challenge," said Vice Chancellor Sarah Latham. "She understands the unique and transformational mission of a D-III program and the needs of student-athletes. She also understands the critical role that club sports, physical education, intramurals, recreation, and wellness programs play in the life of our campus community and the mission of UC Santa Cruz."
