Slugs Answer The Chanllenge

SANTA CRUZ, CA–UC Santa Cruz Men’s Volleyball team defeated #10 Baruch College on Friday night at the West Field House, winning in five games, 30-25, 28-30, 30-20, 25-30 and 15-11. The Slugs improve their record to 5-2, and 2-0 against DIII opponents.

Senior Justin Lam led UCSC with 24 kills and 5 service aces to drive the Slugs offence. Junior Rick Schroeder was second in line for the Slugs with 13 kills hitting .524. Eric Rowell contributed 62 assists to the Slugs victory. The Slugs had an overall hitting percentage of .328 in the battle. 

Baruch’s Santos Rivera had an impressive game posting 17 kills. Pablo Oliveira was second with 16 kills.

Games 1-4 were an epic roller coaster of a battle with Baruch putting on an impressive serving and blocking display. The Slugs answered back with scrappy defense posting 35 digs. In game 5 the Slugs would not be denied. The Slugs went on to close out game five with an unstoppable offense hitting .545.

The Slugs will meet Baruch College again on Saturday afternoon at home. The match is set to start at 3:00 PM.
