#3 Slugs Take Down #2 Springfield College In First DIII Match

SANTA CRUZ, CA–UC Santa Cruz Men’s Volleyball team defeated #2 Springfield College on Friday night at the West Field House, winning in three games, 30-24, 30-25, 30-28.

Springfield, which was ranked number two in the country in the AVCA Preseason National Poll drops to 0-1 while the Slugs improve their record to 3-2, and 1-0 against DIII opponents.

Senior two-time All American Brad Sullivan led UCSC with 16 kills while hitting .414 to drive the Slugs offence. Austin Einhorn and Justin Lam both made double-digit kills with 10. Eric Rowell contributed 42 assists to the Slugs victory. The Slugs had an overall hitting percentage of .360 in the battle, compared to Springfield’s hitting percentage of .189. The Slugs finished with 12.5 team stuff blocks and 37 digs.

Springfield’s All American AJ Nally had an impressive start to his season posting 15 kills and 7 digs. Cal Palumbo was second with 10 kills for the Pride.

The Slugs play their next match Saturday afternoon at home against Cal Baptist University. The match is set to start at 3:00 PM.
