NCAA National Champions May 22, 2008 2007-08 Season Wrap-Up
Dear Greatest Fans Ever, (Slug Fans!)
Just returned from Bates College and the site of the 2008 NCAA Div lll Men’s Tennis Championships. Bittersweet to not be traveling with the entire team, but otherwise a wonderful experience. As most of you probably know by now, the team championship was won by Washington University who hosted the championships last year. We beat them in 07 in the quarterfinals of the team championship and then in 08 in the semi finals of the ITA National Indoor Championships. They are a very good team and were impressive in their championship run beating Emory University in this year’s final in a very close, well played match. (more) May 17, 2008 NCAA Wrap-Up
Dear Slug Fans,
Washington University won the NCAA Team Championship of 2008 with an exciting 5-4 victory over Emory University. In a very balanced year for Div lll tennis the Slugs beat Wash U 6-3 at the ITA National Indoor Championships. Five different teams were ranked number one this year and many new programs have emerged as contenders. (more) May 6, 2008 2007-08 Season Comes to an End In Claremont
Dear Slug Tennis Fans,
Another team season comes to an end but this one ended too soon! After regaining our number one ITA National Team Ranking going into the NCAA tournament, we faced number 10 ranked University of Redlands in the round of 32. In what I would describe as a less than inspired effort, we advanced with a 5-3 win. We won at two and three doubles with Max Ortiz and Brian Pybas at two and Max Liberty-Point and Ilya Gendelman at three both winning 8-5. It’s Nationals Time, the draws have been completed and we are set to go! If you would like to see the entire NCAA Tennis Draw you can get it at: http://www.ncaa.com/tennis-mens/default.aspx?id=476 . We open with Redlands University which represents the highest two nationally ranked teams of any first round match. As usual the west is stacked and the team coming from our region will be battle tested and ready. I think and feel that is us! Coming off a very good Ojai we are playing well up and down the lineup. (more) April 28, 2008 Slugs Bring Home Singles and Doubles Titles From Ojai
Dear Slug Fans,
Once again Ojai proved to be a magic location for the Slugs as we took both the singles and doubles titles for the first time since 2001 in this prestigious event with very strong performances up and down the lineup. With 8 players entered in singles and 4 doubles teams, all advanced to the second round against this highly competitive field! First round highlights included Max Liberty-Point defeating Claremont’s two player Eric McColl in straight sets and Jeff Fong beating U of Puget Sounds top player also in straight sets. In doubles our number four team of Colin Mark-Griffin and Kian Fattahi advanced to the second round along with a convincing 8-1 defeat of Pacific Lutheran’s 5th seeded team to join our top three teams in the second round. Dear Slug Fans,
What an amazing year! After going 3-1 on our Spring Break trip defeating perennial Div lll power Middlebury 8-1 and #6 ranked NAIA Concordia in a 5-4 thriller, we are now #3 in the country according to d3tennis.blogspot.com! We dropped from our #1 ranking following our win against Condordia because of results in other Div lll matches. (more) March 23, 2008 Men's Tennis Heads to Southern California for Spring Break
