Men's Tennis NCAA Regional Tournament Wrap-Up

CLARMONT, CA -- It is hard to believe our team season has come to an end as the journey has been compelling, challenging, and most of all fun and inspiring. One of my regrets is that we can not continue our work as we were clearing improving as we hit the finish line. Our NCAA Regional, clearly the toughest in the country, featured two teams that had beaten us during the regular season: Cal Lutheran (ranked number four in the country) in the first round and Claremont McKenna College (ranked number three in the country) in the second. We entered the tournament ranked number six. (more)

The Slugs Advance to Round 2 of the NCAA Tournament

CLAREMONT, CA-The Slugs started regionals off with a decisive victory over Cal Lutheran, winning 5-2. This win illustrates the hard work the team has put in this spring: last time the slugs met the kingsmen they they were swept in doubles, setting them up for a 5-4 loss.(more)

OJAI, CA--Congratulations to the Slugs, who have just returned home after a great trip south to Ojai. As the only team to have all eight players make it to the second round, the Slugs demonstrated that they have come a long way since their challenging spring break trip.

Slugs Roll on and off the courts!

SANTA CRUZ, CA--Senior Marc Vartabedian and Junior Bryan Pybas are representing the Slugs in the 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Championships. This is one of collegiate athletics' most unique event which will be taking place October 15-18 at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama. (more)

Men's Tennis Ilya Gendelman Names to the Academic All-District Team

SANTA CRUZ, CA--On the same day the Men's Tennis Team captures it's 7th National Championship, Senior Ilya Gendelman is placed on the 2009 Academic All-District Men's At-Large First Team. Presented by ESPN, this academic awards acknowledges Gendelman for not only his tennis accomplishments, but his accomplishments in the classroom. (more)
