October 24, 2009 Men's Soccer Knocks Off No. 6 UC-Santa Cruz
SHERMAN, TX.-- The Austin College men’s soccer team made its final home match of the season a memorable one, getting two first half goals from Chris Melton as the ’Roos stunned the No. 6 ranked University of California-Santa Cruz on Saturday to improve to 5-8-1 overall this season. October 25, 2009 UD Men Lose Tight One to Powerful UC-Santa Cruz
IRVING, TX.-- The men’s Crusader soccer team scratched and clawed against the highly ranked UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, but ultimately fell short by a score of 2-1. The Banana Slugs entered the contest ranked first in the NCAA DIII West Region poll and sixth in the NCAA DIII National poll. (more)

SANTA CRUZ, CA.-- Friday’s match between the UCSC Slugs and Chapman University was D3 independent grudge match. The visiting Chapman University Men from Orange County came into Friday’s match ranked 4th in West with a record of 7-1-2, while the Slugs came into the match ranked #1 in the West (4th in the Nation, NSCAA) with a record of 8-0-1. SANTA CRUZ, CA.-- Tuesday brought a thrill-ride of a match between the 4th ranked NCAA team in the nation, the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs and the NAIA team of Fresno Pacific University. Senior Day at the East Field saw four senior Slugs play their final home game. Seniors Brendan Ward, Matt Mahowald, Tim Degrasse, and Cameron Hector received their standing ovations in front of a loving hometown crowd. (more)

SANTA CRUZ, CA. – Friday’s match-up in Santa Cruz had the Lancers from California Baptist University come to town to face the unbeaten Slugs of UC Santa Cruz. The Slugs with an overtime win just a day previous against Concordia University had improved their record to 6-0-1, while the Lancers came in 1-1-3 in a tough NAIA conference.(more)

SANTA CRUZ, CA.-- Thursday’s game for the Slug Men’s Soccer Program brought a talented NAIA team from southern California, Concordia University. Concordia was ranked number 9 in the nation in the NAIA national polls while UCSC was ranked number 7 in the nation according to the NSCAA National D3 rankings. Concordia came in with a record of 3-3 and the Slugs with an unbeaten record of 5-0-1.(more)
Septemeber 12, 2009 Bulldogs Get Slimed
Santa Cruz, CA–Saturday afternoon saw the clash of two classic west coast rivals between the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs and longtime rivals the Bulldogs from the University of Redlands. This game did not disappoint in any sense of the word. Right from the opening 5 minutes Redlands got on the board their first trip down the field with a breakaway goal from Jeff Willey assisted by Nick Gundersen in the 3rd minute. However, the lead only lasted 30 seconds when the hometown Slugs came right back down the field and scored an equalizer by CJ Villalobos from Fernando Otero. (more)
Septemeber 11, 2009 UC Santa Cruz Beats Linfield, 3-1
SANTA CRUZ, CA.-- Matt Fondy scored his first goal of the 2009 season off of a corner kick from teammate Cody Pillon on Friday. The Slugs came out strong against the visiting Linfield College of McMinville OR, scoring in just the 8th minute of play after already hitting the goalpost twice. Linfield College answered with an equalizing goal in the 37th minute off a free kick header from Carter Elhabbassi to make the game more interesting. However the tie was short lived when Daniel Seltzer scored his 2nd goal of the year unassisted in the 39th minute to go ahead of Wildcats 2-1. (more)

Septemeber 1, 2009 Loggers Fall to Slugs in Season Opener
TACOMA, Wash. - Junior Kyle Benson (Mukilteo, Wash./Kamiak) scored the first goal of the game, and the first goal of the season for Puget Sound early in the second half but a tough UC Santa Cruz team battled back, answering with two of their own as the Banana Slugs took a 2-1 overtime win over the Loggers in a NCAA Division III men's soccer game on Tuesday evening on Peyton Field at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash. April 21, 2009 Slug Soccer Coaches Shift Roles
SANTA CRUZ SENTINEL – Come fall, both the men's and women's soccer teams at UC Santa Cruz will have new faces patrolling the sidelines at the Lower East Field. Dan Chamberlain, who guided the men's program to two NCAA Division-III tournament berths in his three years as head coach, has accepted an assistant coaching job for the men's soccer team at Stanford University effective immediately, and will be replaced at UCSC by former Slugs women's coach Michael Runeare. SANTA CRUZ, CA -- UC Santa Cruz Head Coach, Dan Chamberlain has announced the dates for the UC Santa Cruz summer soccer camps for 2009. The UC Santa Cruz Men's Soccer Program will be hosting two camps this summer, the first is our Advanced Player Development Camp for High School aged players 14-18. January 4, 2009 Petro Earns NSCAA Scholar All-Region Honor
SANTA CRUZ, CA -- Slug Senior, Bobby Petro (Sr. Arroyo Grande, CA) has been named to the NSCAA Scholar All-Region 2nd Team. Petro becomes the third Slug in two years to be named to the Scholar All-Region Team, and joins a proud tradition of Slug academic excellence. As the Slugs’ only senior in 2008, it is with great pride that the UC Santa Cruz Men’s Soccer program says goodbye to Bobby Petro. (more)
