UCSC Women Golf Fall Season Summary September 14th-October 9th

Slug Logo
SANTA CRUZ, CA -- The Lady Slugs were welcomed into Seguin, Texas for the Lady Bulldog Classic by a series of lighting storms that charged up the mighty slugs to shock the field with poise and skill. Freshman Yukari Shichishima was electric in her first outing, finishing 83, 84 for a two day total of 167. The dynamic Capitan of the ship, Ms Halley Sutton, finished her round weekend off well with a total of 169. Overall, the lady slugs placed 3rd in a field of nine, with a two day team total of 682.

Four days later, the girls were off to Lake City, Minnesota for the Division III Midwest Classic. The field of competition was fierce, as many of the nations top Division III teams were in attendance. The slugs battled it out to finish 8th in a field of 18, with Yukari Shichishima having another impressive weekend, highlighted by a round of 78 on Saturday. The lady slugs finished with a two day total of 672, an impressive 10-stroke improvement to their first tournament.

The girls found themselves in Texas once again to round out the fall season at the UMHB Lady Crusader Fall Invitational, played at Wildflower Country Club—a yearly tradition for the UCSC golfers. Freshman Kristin Omi brought the heat, despite the rainy conditions, and finished with a two day total of 161. Halley Sutton finished with a solid total of 166 for the weekend. Perhaps the most impressive performance of the trip however was Senior Siena Garcia, who proceeded to shoot her tournament low round both days—an accomplishment that was rightly celebrated by the team. The girls finished in the top five, with a team total of 684, and look forward to “slugin’ it up” in the spring.
