Slugs Avenge Early Season Loss
SANTA CRUZ , CA -- In the Consolation Championship Game at the University of Redlands Lee Fulmer Classic Menlo College came back from a double digit 2nd half deficit to take the Slugs in OT. Fast foreword 5 weeks and UCSC welcomed The Oaks to the West Field House looking for some pay back.
For the 2nd consecutive game the Slugs started strong and never trailed. UCSC jumped on Menlo early shooting a blistering 50% (16/32) from the floor and 67% (6/9) from 3 point land. The Slugs forced 13 first half turnovers en route to a 40-25 advantage at the intermission. The 2nd half saw the lead get to 20 before Menlo made a run that cut it to 8 (57-49) with 7 minutes to play. UCSC would answer with a 18-7 run to close out the game and secure a 75-56 win. Matsuoka and Darrin Lew lead the charge as the Junior Duo combined for 34 points 9 assists 4 steals with only 1 turnover. Julian Harris led Menlo with 15 points before fouling out late in the game.
The Slugs play their final home game of the season on Saturday Feb. 6th at 7pm, before the tip off we will be honoring our 5 graduating seniors. Come support Ehson Mortezaie, Miguel Smith, Niel Brennan, Teddy Monson and Eric Norton in their final home game for the UCSC
