Slugs Cruz At Home

SANTA CRUZ , CA -- On Thursday night the West Field House played host to Pacific Union College, and the UCSC faithful were in full effect. Another rowdy crowd enjoyed a convincing UCSC victory while the squad itself continued to gain momentum. Taking its 4th win in its last 6 games the Slugs never trailed and led by as many as 26 in the 2nd half before PUC made a late run to get back into it. With another tremendous defensive performance UCSC held the Pioneer’s to 14 first half points and 30% shooting from the floor from the game.

Freshman Tyler Hunt got things going scoring 7 of the first 9 points of the game for UCSC and the Slugs never looked back. UCSC would hold PUC to 20% shooting in the first half and allow only 4 made field goals while Hunt and Junior Darrin Lew would lead the Slug attack. At the break UCSC held a 35-14 advantage and was in complete control. The 2nd half saw much of the same as the Slugs would build their lead till PUC made a late run and cut it to 11 with 8 minutes to play. UCSC would again extend the lead to 17 and the final score was as close as it got after that. Lew finished with a team high 14 points to go with 5 assists 4 rebounds and 2 steals, Ryan Matsuoka would add 12 points 3 boards 3 assists and Greg Palmer came off the bench to contribute 10 points and 4 boards. Aren Rennacker had a game high 18 while Kyle Penn had 11 points and 8 rebounds for the Pioneer’s.

Next up for UCSC is a Saturday night contest vs The Menlo College Oaks. The West Field House will see the UCSC Men’s Volleyball team play at 3pm and then the Men’s Basketball Team play at 7pm. Come support your Slugs and help get the West Field House Rocking!
