Sydney Gutierrez has been crowned the Association of Division III Independents women's cross country Student-Athlete of the Month for September.

The sophomore opened up the month with a 28th place finish at the NDNU/Crystal Springs Invite on September 2nd with a 6K time of 27:47.5. Gutierrez later finished third out of 49 runners at the La Positas Invite on September 15th with a 5K time of 20:20.1 She concluded the month with a personal record of 23:23.7 at the 6K Capital Cross Challenge on September 30th. Gutierrez finished ahead of two dozen Division I runners in the race. Her race in Sacramento won her the Associations Runner of the Week award.

She and the Banana Slugs will next run in Sunnyvale at the Santa Clara University Bronco Invite this Saturday.
