Banana Slugs Men and Women Finish Second in Pioneer Invitational

ANGWIN (9-25) – UC Santa Cruz took part in their third race of the season as they took part in the Pioneer Invitational in Angwin. Their opposition included seven NAIA schools.

In the men's race, Vincent Chevreuil had the best individual finish of the day for the Banana Slugs as he finished fifth with a time of 29:48.6. Harmen Kang finished in eighth place with a time of 30:24.8. Raymond Breault ran the 8K course in a time of 30:53.4. Jonathan Trinh finished eleventh with a time of 31.08.4. Michael Garcia ran the course in a time of 31:10.9 which placed him in twelfth. Leo Merle finished seventh with a time of 32:38.1.
In the women's race, Erin Carvalho finished seventh with a time of 22:53.4. Isabella Demachkie ran the 5K course in 22:53.4 which placed her in tenth. Nicole O'Connor finished twelfth with a time of 24:22.9. Gianna D'Annibale ran a 25:06.8 time which placed her in sixteenth. Nathalie Coletta finished seventeenth with a time of 25:32.1. Renee Taylor ran a time of 25:33.4 which put her in eighteenth place. Alex Sohoni finished twentieth with a time of 25:53.1. Taylor Barkdoll ran a time of 26:42.1 and placed in twenty-fourth. Casey Chien rounded out the Banana Slugs contingent with a time of 26:48.5 and finished in twenty-fifth.
In the men's team competition, UC Merced won the race while UC Santa Cruz finished second. Guillermo Rivas of UC Merced won the individual competition. UC Merced won the women's team competition while UC Santa Cruz finished second. Megan Thompson of Menlo College won the individual competition.
The Banana Slugs' next race will be October 1st as they will travel to Salem, Oregon to participate in the 42nd Annual Charles Bowles Invitational.
