SANTA CRUZ (10-27) – UC Santa Cruz completed their regular season schedule as they took on Brooklyn College at West Field House. The Banana Slugs won 3-0 over the Bulldogs.
The Banana Slugs finish up the regular season with a 9-19 record.
In the first set, the Banana Slugs started the set on a 16-7 run capped by an assisted block by Alexandria Everett and Sierra Yuen. The closest the Bulldogs would come would be eight on two occasions; the second occasion at 17-9 on a Michaela Appel kill. The Banana Slugs won the first set 25-9 and took a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set, the Banana Slugs would start the set on a 4-0 spurt capped by an Everett kill. The Bulldogs would get back into the set with a 9-5 spurt capped by a service ace. The two teams would trade points for the next twelve serves. The Banana Slugs would take the lead for good, at 16-15, on an Isabella Hoglund kill. The Banana Slugs won the second set 25-18 and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, the Banana Slugs would start the set on a 14-3 run, including three straight aces by Gio Martins and capped by an attack error by the Bulldogs. The Banana Slugs won the third set 25-7 and won the match 3-0.
For UC Santa Cruz, Everett had a match-high ten kills and for Brooklyn, Appel and Ezri Shor had five kills apiece. Timolin Kepon had a match-high fifteen assists for UC Santa Cruz and Claudia Moi had eight for Brooklyn. Rachel Sveiven led the Banana Slugs with a match-high fifteen digs and Isabella Perroncino had thirteen digs for the Bulldogs.
For the match, UC Santa Cruz had a .241 hitting percentage with the best percentage coming in the first set at .407 while Brooklyn had a -.030 hitting percentage with the best percentage coming in the second set at .083. The Banana Slugs had ten more service aces (13-3) than did the Bulldogs.
