Women's volleyball sweeps Brooklyn College

SANTA CRUZ - UC Santa Cruz opened a two-day homestand with a resounding 3-0 win over Brooklyn College (25-8, 25-16, 25-14) at the West Field House.

UCSC improved to 8-19 and Brooklyn College, who earlier in the day beat Mills College, fell to 17-8.

The Banana Slugs weren't bothered in the first set, opening a 20-4 run right away to take control, including a 6-0 run capped by a pair of Alana Susbilla aces.

In set two, the teams played close until UCSC went on an 8-0 run to seize control at 13-6 and eventually take a 2-0 lead.

Set three had four ties, the last at 10-10 before the Slugs went on an 8-2 run. The Bulldogs got to within 5 at 18-13 before UCSC put the game away with a 7-1 run for their second consecutive sweep.

Yuen had 10 kills for UCSC The .337 was the second-highest hitting percentage of the year for UCSC. Jordan Kirchner added 7 and both Maiya Sears and Shania Andrews had 6. Susbilla and Claire Okerlund each finished with 4 of the Banana Slugs' 12 total aces

Ezri Shor had 5 kills on 13 swings to lead the Bulldogs.

The teams play again tomorrow at the West Field House. First serve is 2:00 pm.
