Regals Sweep Banana Slugs

THOUSAND OAKS (9-11) – Madison Waddell had nine kills and the Banana Slugs hit over .100 but it was not enough as the Banana Slugs were swept by California Lutheran University 3-0 at Gilbert Arena in Thousand Oaks. The match was the second match of the day for the Banana Slugs at the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational.

In their last match, the Banana Slugs lost 3-1 to Willamette University earlier today while the Regals swept Providence Christian College 3-0 earlier today. Both matches were a part of the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational.  

In the first set, the Regals had seventeen kills as they cruised to a 25-16 set one win and took a 1-0 lead in the match. In the second set, the Banana Slugs committed six errors as the Regals won the second set 25-13 and led the match 2-0. The third set was tightest of the match as the Banana Slugs converted eleven kills. However, the Banana Slugs also committed eight errors as the Regals won the third set 25-18 and won the match 3-0.

For UC Santa Cruz, Waddell had nine kills and for California Lutheran, Michelle Lawrence had a match high fourteen kills. Sophie Seiberth had eighteen assists for UC Santa Cruz and Jamie Smith had a match high thirty one for California Lutheran. Alison Ota and Seiberth led the Banana Slugs with seven digs and Nicki Tetherow had a match high ten digs for the Regals.

For the match, UC Santa Cruz had a .105 hitting percentage with the best percentage coming in the first set at .188 while California Lutheran had a .322 hitting percentage with the best percentage also coming in the first set at .394. The Regals had eight fewer errors (18-10) than did the Banana Slugs.

The Banana Slugs will have two matches tomorrow as they wrap up their time in Southern California. The Banana Slugs will take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 4 pm and Whittier College at 6 pm.
