Banana Slugs defeat Whittier 8-1 to start spring season

SAN LUIS OBISPO - With threatening weather in their corner of the Central Coast, UC Santa Cruz's match with Whittier got moved south to Cal Poly.
The change in scenery did not rain on UCSC's parade, as the Banana Slugs won 8-1 to open their spring season.

"Our Slugs are becoming 'masters of variability'," said head coach Amy Jensen. "The inclement weather has given us time to work on our mental games off court, and it's also given us an opportunity to practice our patience and resilience."

"I'm so proud of everyone for their positive energy both on and off court today," continued Jensen. "We did a super job today of playing together as a team. It was great to see everyone working on individual aspects of their games."

Jensen named freshman Ines Pelvang as the standout of the dual match.
"Ines was the first one who finished today and had a really strong showing in singles and doubles."

UCSC is net scheduled to host Chapman, Whitman and Trinity at the Slug Slam Tournament next weekend.
