Penguins Defeat Banana Slugs

SANTA CRUZ (4-7) – The Banana Slugs played their first of four matches against NCAA Division II opponents as they took on Dominican University in Santa Cruz. The Penguins won each match that was played and won 9-0.  

This match was a rematch of a match that was played on February 24th in San Rafael which saw the Penguins win 6-3. Both teams lost their last match. The Banana Slugs lost 7-2 to ITA/NCAA Division III #25 University of Redlands in Redlands on March 30th while the Penguins lost 7-2 to Dixie State University in San Rafael on March 28th.

The Penguins won all six singles matches.  In the #1 singles match between Ashley Isaac of UC Santa Cruz was up against ITA/NCAA Division II #66 Skyler Schaar of Dominican until Isaac had to retire in the third set tiebreaker, The other tight singles match was at #4 between Savana McDowell of the Banana Slugs and Alex Wartenberg of the Penguins. Wartenberg defeated McDowell 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.
