Women's tennis has breakout win over Whittier

WHITTIER - UC Santa Cruz broke a five-match skid and defeated the Whittier Poets 7-2 on Monday.

"The Slugs responded really well in their first match back after finals," said head coach Amy Jensen. "We wanted to elevate our doubles play, compete with more intensity internally as well as visibly, and embrace the challenge and discomfort of competition. We did all of those things today."

"It was a rewarding to work on some new habits I wanted to incorporate during my match," said Therese Recidoro, who won her first singles match of the season 7-5, 6-1 over Kallysta Lopez. "I focused on the things that I could control every point. I am so proud of the team for competing the way we wanted to and bringing a home match atmosphere to an away game."

The Slugs continue Spring Break with a match against Linfield Thursday morning at Redlands.
