SANTA CRUZ, CA -- UC Santa Cruz took on fellow NCAA Division III opponent Claremont-Mudd-Scripps this morning in Santa Cruz. The match was the first of two on the day for the Banana Slugs. The matches had the Banana Slugs squaring off against three opponents that are currently featured in the ITA NCAA Division III Top 50 and the Banana Slugs fell to the Athenas 9-0.
In their last match, the Banana Slugs lost to Sonoma State University 9-0 on February 21st in Rohnert Park while the Athenas won their last match 6-3 over Academy of Art University in Santa Cruz on Friday.
The Athenas won all six singles matches. In the #1 singles match, ITA's #17 player in the NCAA Division III Caroline Ward of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defeated Courtney Lymburner of UC Santa Cruz 6-1, 6-1. In the #2 singles match, ITA #40 Katie Kuosman of the Athenas defeated Sylvia Brummitt of the Banana Slugs 6-1, 6-2. In the #3 singles match, Lindsay Brown of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defeated Soph Lundeberg of UC Santa Cruz 6-1, 6-0. In the #4 singles match, Bria Smith of the Athenas defeated Islay Fossett of the Banana Slugs 6-0, 6-1. In the #5 singles match, Kyla Scott of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defeated Zoe Middleton-Brook of UC Santa Cruz 6-0, 6-0. The tightest singles match of the afternoon was the #6 singles match between Stephanie Graziano of UC Santa Cruz and Lauren Livingston of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Livingston won the match 6-1, 6-3.
