Banana Slugs edged by Pomona-Pitzer 1-0

Bria VarnBuhler scored on a 55th minute breakaway to give 17th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 win over UC Santa Cruz on Saturday.

UCSC fell to 2-5 on the season while the Sagehens went to 5-1.

Cayce Shaw had UCSC's best chance to get on the scoreboard in the 65th minute, but her towering 30-yard free kick was punched away by Pomona goalkeeper Kendall Shein at the last second, and UCSC couldn't pounce on the ensuing goalmouth scramble.

Malia Starita had seven saves for UCSC. The Banana Slugs next play on Saturday the 22nd at Menlo College.
