Women's soccer drops home opener to Dominican

UC Santa Cruz fell to 2-4 on the season with a 2-0 loss to Division II Dominican in the Banana Slugs' home opener.

Dominican improved to 1-3-1 on the season.

The Penguins controlled possession early and it paid off in the 17th minute when Kaitlyn Haub knocked in a header off a corner to make it 1-0.

A breakaway score by Michelle Li from an Alexis Luna pass completed scoring in the 55th minute as Dominican weathered the Santa Cruz attack the rest of the game

The Penguins outshot UCSC 10-2 in the game. Goalie Malia Starita finished with 3 saves for UCSC, including an acrobatic kick save in the last minute.

UC Santa Cruz looks to break through to the win column with a matchup against No. 17 Pomona-Pitzer. Kickoff is set for noon on Saturday.
