Women's soccer's drops first game 2-1 at Linfield

McMinnville, OR -  UC Santa Cruz dropped a 2-1 at Linfield on Wednesday evening.

The Banana Slugs fell to 2-1 on the season while Linfield went to 3-0.

After the Wildcats took a 1-0 halftime lead, UCSC scored their lone goal under a minute after the restart when Tomiko Hoshjima scored her first career goal.

UCSC kept Linfield at bay for most of the second half, including a penalty saved by goalkeeper Allie Mandel.

Linfield scored the game-winner in the 81st minute when Sydney Kuehn headed in a corner for her second goal of the game.

The Wildcats outshot UCSC 23-5, but the Banana Slug defense held them off. Mandel finished with 11 saves in her first action of the season.

UCSC continues their road trip on Friday against George Fox.
