INDIANAPOLIS- UC Santa Cruz made the 2017 NCAA Division III soccer tournament as the postseason bracket was announced on Monday.
The Banana Slugs picked up the lone Pool B slot reserved for Independent institutions for the second straight year and won the final Great South conference title in 2015.
"This team has come together from the very start of the season and played for each other," said head coach Lauren Nadler. Making the NCAA tournament for a third year in a row is a tribute to their hard work,dedication and passion for this game."
It is the eleventh overall tournament bid for UC Santa Cruz. The Slugs had one of the toughest schedules in the nation that included eight games against Division II schools.
The Slugs' first-round opponent is SCIAC regular season champion Cal Lutheran on Saturday Nov. 11th. It is a rematch of the October 2nd game where Cal Lutheran won 1-0.
Whittier and Pacific Lutheran play in the other game of the all-West Coast subregional.
