UC Santa Cruz can't rally from early deficit in loss to Notre Dame

BELMONT - UC Santa Cruz could not rally from a pair of early goals by Notre Dame de Namur in a loss to the Division II Argonauts.

The Banana Slugs fell to 1-6 on the year. NDNU goes to 3-2.

Ellie Mujushi led the Argonauts with two goals in the first 15 minutes that left UCSC playing catchup. A third goal made the halftime score 3-0. NDNU added to its lead in the second half with a pair of header goals off corner kicks.

In their first visit to Belmont in fifteen years, UCSC went deep into their bench, including handing a debut off the bench to freshman Amelia Streiffer, last year's San Francisco High School player of the year. She had UCSC's best opportunity, but her 89th minute shot was saved.

The hosts finished with an 18-3 shot advantage and had six corners to one for the Banana Slugs. Alie Mandel finished with four saves in goal while starter Malia Starita had one stop.

UCSC continues its Division II road trip with a visit to Dominican on Sunday.
