The UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs overcame an early 1-0 deficit to rally in the second half for a 2-1 home win over George Fox.
UCSC won their first win of the year.
The Bruins (0-3) scored on their second shot of the game in the 8th minute when Savannah Moisin collected the ball near midfield, raced through two players and slipped a shot under Athena Del Rosario for the lead.
UCSC slowly got back in the game. The backline of Claire Lim, Gabby Powell, Lindsey Archer and Katie Schinnerer kept the Bruins without another shot on goal until four minutes left in the half. However, the Slug forwards couldn't get past an equally resilient George Fox defense.
The Slugs flipped the switch on in the second half, unleashing five shots in the first ten minutes and maintained possession better in the second frame. The offense paid off in the 69th minute when Cayce Shaw scored her second goal of the season after latching onto a pass from Olivia Stewart and lobbing it over the Bruin goalkeeper.
"We played hard for 90 minutes," said coach Emily Scheese after. "I'm pleased how we managed consistency across the game."
The Slugs outshot the Bruins 17-5 for the game, with an 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Athena Del Rosario had one save and didn't face a shot on goal in the second half.
The Slugs next play on Thursday at Menlo.
