UC Santa Cruz faced a hot-shooting Wisconsin-Oshkosh team and fell to their Midwest visitors 2-1 at the Lower East Field.
The game started with UCSC getting the game's first two shots but the visiting Titans controlled possession and kept the Slugs from pushing up for much of the first half.
The second half started with more Titans' possesion but no team able to get on the scoreboard. The action picked up after a twenty-minute delay in the game. With 29 minutes left the field was cleared because a medical airlift helicopter needed the stadium to rendezvous with a patient.
The first attack after the delay went to the visitors and Ally Vandenberg thought she opened scoring but her shot hit the crossbar and bounced down a yard from the goal. Her rebound was kicked wide.
A few minutes later, the Titans' Alyssa Arnold opened scoring with a long free kick. The Titans doubled their advantage 1:09 later as Robyn Elliot collected a pass on the left and knocked it off the far post into the net.
The Banana Slugs then doubled their efforts to get back in the game Megan Carey collected a through ball and her shot richocheted off the UW-O goalie. Unfortunately, sub Gabby Powell couldn't cleanly collect the rebound.
The haste of attack paid off with under 14 minutes left when Carey flicked a header off a Kayla McCord cross that went over the Titans' keeper to cut the deficit to 2-1. That was UCSC's last good attempt at goal and the game ended 2-1.
Wisconsin-Oshkosh finished with a 32-11 shot advantage. UCSC's defense blocked five shots and cleared three kicks off the line in addition to Selina Davila Olivera's six saves.
The Banana Slugs take the field next on Wednesday Sept. 30 against William Jessup for Senior Day.
