Banana Slugs keep scoreless streak going,tie Menlo 0-0

UC Santa Cruz got their third straight shutout, but couldn't find the net in a 0-0 tie with Northern California rivals Menlo College Tuesday afternoon.

UCSC goes to 1-3-2 and stopped Menlo's (4-1-3) four-game winning streak.

The resolute Banana Slug defense allowed four shots on goal to a Menlo team that came in having scored 21 goals in their last four games.

Junior goalkeeper Selina Davila Olivera had her third straight shutout. Her backline of Emma Whitwell Rika Goto Claire Lim and Ryann Miguel ran their scoreless streak to 356.

UCSC had a slight edge in shots (13-12) and corner kicks (3-1) but couldn't get the winning goal.

The best first good UCSC chance came in the first half. Whitwell got under a pass from Joelle Steichen after a corner but her header couldn't get past Oaks keeper Kaylin Swart.

In the second overtime, Megan Carey collected a pass with six minutes left but couldn't get her shot past Swart.

The Banana Slugs next play Saturday afternoon with a road matchup against Division II Fresno Pacific.
