The starting Slugs today at St. Thomas's new turf facility in front of their home crowd in St. Paul, Minnesota.
St. Paul, MN--The Slugs defeated the Tommies 2-1 in sudden death overtime on their 8th corner kick strike of the night to improve to 2-0-0 on the season. Sophomore #21 Rika Goto's corner kick service from the left side exactly one minute into the first overtime period at 91:00 minutes found junior midfielder #9 Liz Kaufman deep at the opposite 18-yard box who bent a strike back on frame that was finally headed away by senior #10 Justine Dougherty. This was Justine's second clinch finish in two games and first game winner of the season. The Slugs dug themselves out of a 0-1 deficit after going down in the first half on an upper-V bullet from the Tommies' #24 Taylor Skorik who struck when the Slugs failed to clear the ball out of danger. Resetting at half time, the Slugs rallied and Junior midfielder #3 Dru Dowis answered back in the second half with a left footed strike from the edge of the 18-yard box after the Tommies were unable to clear this surge from the Slugs. The Slug women are undefeated so far on their road trip against the MIAC teams and have one last opportunity to complete a 3-game streak when they take on Carleton on Tuesday at 11am CST.
