Banana Slugs close Fall with 5th place finish Culturame Classic

CANBY (10-7) – The Banana Slugs traveled to Oregon for the Culturame Classic hosted by George Fox University at Willamette Valley County Club. The Culturame Classic is the final event of the calendar year for Banana Slugs. 

The Banana Slugs' competition included three NCAA Division III schools and one NAIA school.

In the first round, Claire Oetinger shot an 83 (+9) which tied her with Nicolle Nitta of George Fox University. Mara Anunciacion fired a first round score of 89 (+15) which tied her with Delainey Patterson of Corban University. Dana Bryant shot a score of 91 (+17). Jessica Salazar and Sarah Shi each fired a 94 (+20) to round out the Banana Slugs on the day.  

Playing the second round in rainy conditions, Oetinger shot an 86 (+12) , for a total tournament score of 169 (+21) which placed her eighteenth . Anounciacion had the Slugs' low round of the tournament as she shot a second round score of 82 (+8) for a two-round total of 171 (+32) which placed tied her for nineteenth along with Hannah Roe of Whitman College. Bryant shot a 92 (+18) for a total score of 183 (+35) which placed her in twenty-ninth. Shi shot a 92 (+18) for a total score of 186 (+38). Salazar shot a 99 (+25) for a total score of 193 (+45).

Iris Kawada and Alexandria McMenamin of George Fox shared the individual title. George Fox won the team competition while UC Santa Cruz finished fifth in the team competition.
