2016 ASC Women's Golf Championship Set to Tee Off

RICHARDSON, Texas – The 2016 American Southwest Conference Women's Golf Championship tees off Monday, April 18 at the Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, Texas.
 
The tournament is scheduled for two 18-hole rounds with 32 players on eight teams. In the first round on Monday each team will tee off from the first hole at 8:00 a.m. in order of seed ranking. The second round on Tuesday will be a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. at assigned tees.
 
Over the last five tournaments, the ASC title has come down to either Texas-Tyler or Mary Hardin-Baylor including a one-stroke win by the Patriots last season. UT Tyler has won the last two championships while the Cru has taken the last four consecutive individual medalists. Entering the 2016 ASC Tournament, UT Tyler and UMHB golfers hold nine of the top 10 individual scoring averages in the conference.
 
Texas-Tyler is ranked No. 4 in Division III and leads the ASC with a 313.4 stroke average. The Patriots have won a league-best four events and placed in the top three in every tournament this season. Senior Laura Lindsey leads the Patriots as the No. 3 ranked golfer in Division III by Golfstat.com with a 75.4 average. The 2013 NCAA individual champion, Lindsey has claimed three medalist awards and placed in the top five in seven tournaments.
 
In the previous 17 ASC championships Mary Hardin-Baylor has claimed 10 tournament crowns and finished as the runner-up five times. The Cru has also recorded more than half of the medalist honors with nine out of 17 events. UMHB is ranked No. 16 in Division III and has one team title and three runner-up scores this season. Senior Elizabeth Davis is ranked No. 23 in Division III and is second in the ASC with a 76.8 average.
 
The 2016 tournament is the 18th ASC women's event. The winner is declared the ASC Champion and receives an automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship.
