UC Santa Cruz Finishes Sixth at American Southwest Conference Women’s Golf Championship

GLEN ROSE, TX -- UC Santa Cruz took part in the 2015 American Southwest Conference Women's Golf Championship. The event took place at Squaw Valley Golf Club in Glen Rose, Texas. The Banana Slugs' competition featured seven member schools of the American Southwest Conference.

In the first round, Ravipa Losakul led the Banana Slugs' contingent with a +8 (80). Rachel Pae shot a +14 (86), which tied her with Lauren Trofholz of Concordia University (TX). Angela McElroy finished with a +16 (88), which tied her with Delaney Nelson of Concordia (TX), Bethany Salgado of University of Texas-Dallas and Teresa Son of LeTourneau University. Olivia Bean shot a +23 (95) which tied her with Jayde Westbrook of Louisiana College. Kendra Morris rounded the Banana Slugs' contingent with a +36 (108). McKenzie Ralston of University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Taylor Sloane of University of Texas-Tyler were tied for the lead in the individual competition after one round and Mary Hardin Baylor and Texas-Tyler led the team competition after one round. UC Santa Cruz was tied for fifth in the team competition with Concordia (TX).
 

In the second round, Losakul shot a +14 (86) for a total tournament score of +22 (166) which tied her for 17th along with Trofholz. Pae finished in 23rd while shooting +17 (89) for a total tournament score of +31 (175). McElroy shot a +16 (88) and finished with a total tournament score of +32 (176) which tied her with Salgado for 24th. Bean shot a +14 (86) round finishing her with a total tournament score of +37 (181) and placing her in 29th. Morris shot a +30 (102) for a total score of +66 (210) which placed her in 36th place. Ralston won the individual competition while Texas-Tyler won the team competition. UC Santa Cruz finished sixth in the team competition. 

The Banana Slugs will have to wait for the announcement of the individuals and teams that will be participating in the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship. The announcement will be made May 4th.
