VALLEJO, CA -- UC Santa Cruz competed in their first event of the 2015 calendar year as they competed in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout. The event was held at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, California and was hosted by CSU East Bay. The Banana Slugs' competition featured eleven NCAA Division II schools, one NCAA Division III school and two NAIA schools.
In the first round, Rachel Pae led the Banana Slugs' team with a 99 (+27). Olivia Bean shot a 100 (+28). Victoria Saucedo shot a 107 (+35). Kendra Morris rounded out the Banana Slugs with a 111 (+39). Hannah Gregg of Sonoma State University led the individual competition with a 69 (-3) and Sonoma State led the team competition.
In the second round, Saucedo shot a 94 (+22) for a total score of 201 (+57) which led the Banana Slugs contingent and placed her in 77th place. Pae shot a second round 104 (+32) for a total score of 203 (+59) which tied her for 78th place along with Courtney Lemos of Holy Names University. Bean shot a 106 (+34) for a total score of 206 (+62) which placed her in 80th place. Morris shot a final round of 116 (+44) for a total score of 227 (+83) which placed her in 82nd place. Allison Howarth of St. Mary's University (TX) won the individual competition with a 143 (-1) and St. Mary's University (TX) won the team competition.
The Banana Slugs will hit the links for the final time this season on March 27th-29th as they will host the UCSC Invitational. The tournament will take place at Pacific Grove Golf Links in Pacific Grove, California.
