Texas-Tyler Leads After First Day at Women's ASC Golf Championship

GLEN ROSE, TX – Despite high winds and near winter conditions Texas-Tyler shot a 317 first round score to take a seven-stroke lead after the first day of competition at the 2014 American Southwest Conference Golf Championship at Squaw Valley Golf Club in Glen Rose, Texas.

Each of the Texas-Tyler golfers carded first round scores in the top 12 rankings. Junior Taylor Sloane leads the Patriots with a 76 and is currently in second place overall. Junior Jordan Sloane (79) is tied for third, sophomore Laura Lindsey is tied for sixth with freshman teammate Morgan Loth (81) and junior Marina Rhodes (87) is tied for 12th.

Mary Hardin-Baylor junior McKenzie Ralston scored three birdies and 10 pars to finish the first day as the individual leader (75). Ralston led the defending ASC champion Cru to a second-place team score (324). Junior Taylor O' Rear, the ASC two-time defending medalist, is tied for third (79). Junior Victoria Thane (81) is tied for sixth, sophomore Elizabeth Davis (89) is tied for 14th and senior Kelly Gonyea (94) is tied for 22nd.

The ASC Championship and NCAA automatic qualifier will be on the line when the final round starts Tuesday at 8:00 a.m.
