Women's basketball can't keep up with Cal Lutheran in 53-43 loss

THOUSAND OAKS- Host Cal Lutheran used a 24-6 fourth quarter to come back and defeat UC Santa Cruz 53-43 on Thursday night.

UCSC fell to 2-3 after losing to Cal Lutheran (3-1) for the second time in two weeks.

UCSC started off hot. They were up 28-20 after two quarters and led by as much as 12 when Katie Young's layup made in 32-20 8:30 to go in the third. The hosts then started catching up and blew past UCSC in the last quarter, shooting 10-15 in field goals in the fourth while the Banana Slugs missed shot after shot.

The Slugs shot season-lows in three-pointers (1-10) and field goals (15-55,27.3%), including 1-11 in the fateful last ten minutes. CLU had a 46-30 rebounding edge.

Kim Tom and Jocelin Petatan each had 9 points to lead UCSC in scoring. Katilin Stephenson added 7. Kiana Gray, who was held to five points in the season-opener in Santa Cruz, led the Regals with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Banana Slugs come home to take on old rival Chapman on Saturday in a Battle of The Colleges event.
