The UC Santa Cruz Women's Basketball Program not only hits the hardwood, but also hits the books.
On the heels of their NCAA Tournament debut, UC Santa Cruz was recently ranked fourth overall nationally by the WBCA with a team GPA of 3.605, making the Banana Slugs was the only D3 program in the country to finish in the top 10 academically and make the NCAA Tournament this past season.
"We are very proud of our academic and athletic accomplishments over the past several years. It is a testament to the dedication our student-athletes have in the classroom and on the court," said Head Coach Todd Kent.
Over the last several years, they have maintained a GPA above 3.4. In the 2015-2016 season the team was tops of all UCSC teams in GPA. A whopping 13 of the 16 Women's Basketball team members made the Great South Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, achieving a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Coach Kent is going into his 8th season as the Women's Basketball Head Coach. His teams have managed to achieve a 100% graduation rate during his time at the University while averaging 17 wins per season the last four years.
