Association of Division III Independents  Names 2015 All-Independent Women’s Basketball Teams

OVERLAND PARK, KS - Jah-Leah Ellis, a senior forward from The College of New Rochelle, was named the player of the year for the second year in a row as the All-Independent Women's Basketball teams were announced today by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I).

Ellis, a native of Harlem, New York, averaged 20.2 points and 15.7 rebounds per game along with 3.4 assists and 2.9 steals per game in 23 games. The forward was a four-time AD3I Player of the Week and was Student-Athlete of the Month for the months of November, December and January.

In addition to Ellis, the other members of the first team include Sarah Mackey, University of California, Santa Cruz; Leah Parrish, University of California, Santa Cruz; Alyssa Pechin, The College of New Rochelle and Samantha Retas, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn).

Chrisandra Freeman, a freshman forward/guard from Mount Mary University, was named the rookie of the year after averaging 14.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game on the year.

Todd Kent, head coach at University of California, Santa Cruz, was named the coach of the year for the straight season. Kent led the Banana Slugs to a 17-8 record.

The All-Independent Women's Basketball teams were selected by the women's basketball coaches from AD3I member schools.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of seven Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of eight other sports this year.
