TURLOCK (3-5) – UC Santa Cruz took part in their second meet of the season as they traveled to Turlock to take part in the Kim Duyst Invitational. The event took place at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium and was hosted by Stanislaus State University. The Slugs' competition included several NCAA schools, one NAIA school and several junior college and running clubs.
In the men's competition, in the 100 meter dash, Roger Huynh finished thirty third with a time of 12.08. In the 1,500 meter run, Takehiro Yamaya finished tenth with a time of 4:15.01, Tyler Jung finished twenty third with a time of 4:27.21, Tommy Smail finished twenty fourth with a time of 4:31.18, Liam Dugard finished twenty seventh with a time of 4:42.23 and Nathan Foster finished twenty eighth with a time of 4:47.19. In the 800 meter run, Yamaya finished fortieth with a time of 2:02.16, Jung finished fifty fourth with a time of 2:07.80, Smail finished fifty seventh with a time of 2:12.33, Dugard finished sixtieth with a time of 2:24.98 and Foster finished sixty first with a time of 2:28.80. In the 200 meter dash, Huynh finished forty fourth with a time of 24.46.
In the women's competition, in the 100 meter hurdles, Madison Wright finished twenty third with a time of 19.63 seconds. In the 100 meter dash, Miranda Mendoza finished twenty seventh with a time of 12.91. In the 1,500 meter run, Raissa Boysen finished eleventh with a time of 5:12.70, Lizzie Meredith finished twelfth with a time of 5:12.98, Jamie West finished twentieth with a time of 5:22.66 and Isabelle Panza finished twenty fourth with a time of 5:28.97. In the 800 meter run, Meredith tied for the best finish of the day for the Banana Slugs contingent as she finished seventh with a time of 2:32.31. Boysen finished eighth with a time of 2:32.57, Natalie Marquardt finished ninth with a time of 2:33.14 and Panza finished fifteenth with a time of 2:47.59. In the 200 meter dash, Nancy Alvarado-Zavaleta finished fifty seventh with a time of 29.07. In the 5,000 meter run, West finished twentieth with a time of 18:45. Miranda Mendoza had the other seventh place finish of the day for the Banana Slugs as she had a distance of 21.78 meters in the discus throw. In the high jump, Wright finished tenth with a jump of 1.42 meters. In the triple jump, Alvarado-Zavaleta finished sixteenth with a distance of 9.44 meters.
The team competitions were combined. UC Santa Cruz finished 22nd in the 30 team field with 23 points. Modesto Junior College won the event with 355.50 points.
The Banana Slugs will have their next meet on March 26th as they take part in the ARC Invitational in Sacramento.
