SANTA CRUZ (1-26) – The Banana Slugs took part in their final dual match of the season as they hosted NCAA Division I member Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for Senior Day. The Banana Slugs lost 387-190 to the Mustangs.
In the men's team competition, the Mustangs won 190-99 and in the women's team competition, the Mustangs won 197-91.
In the men's competition, the Banana Slugs won two of the sixteen events that took place. Individually, Ethan Johnson (one-meter diving and three-meter diving) had the best finish of the day as he won both of his events, clinching his participation at the NCAA West Regional. As a team, the Banana Slugs' best finish was second in both the 200-yard medley relay (Victor Sowa, Daniel Choy, John Lupu and Vernon Wetzell) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (Christian Leon, Stefan Leon, Lupu and Wetzell).
The women's team won one event of the sixteen events that took place. Individually, Janine Grgurina (1 Meter Diving) had the best finish of the day as she won her event. As a team, the Banana Slugs' best finish was second in both the 200-yard medley relay (Meghan Burr, Katie Hardung, Kenya Lam and Ryan Springer) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (Elisabeth Lundgren, Burr, Lael Proffit and Springer). Also, Springer finished second in the 50 free by just 0.04 seconds in 24.86.
The next event for the Banana Slugs will be February 13th-14th as they participate in the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championships at Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center in La Mirada.
