Men Swimmers Win Team Event, Women Finish 3rd at Bay Area Invitational

OAKLAND (10-27) – The Banana Slugs took part in their second invitational of the season as they took part in the Bay Area Invitational hosted by Mills College in Oakland. The Banana Slugs' competition featured two NCAA Division II schools, one NCAA Division III school and two NAIA schools. 

The Banana Slugs won the the men's team competition by twenty-nine points (629-600) over NAIA member College of Idaho. In the women's team competition, NCAA Division II member CSU East Bay won while the Banana Slugs finished third. 

In the men's competition, the Banana Slugs had participants finish in the top five in all fourteen events that took place. Individually, Jack Schertler (1st 400-yard IM & 2nd 200 Fly and 200 Back) had the best finishes of the day for the Banana Slugs . As a team, the Banana Slugs' best finish was in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 800-yard freestyle relay as they finished second in those events. Other standouts included Jeremy Peris (50 free 2nd) , Christian Leon and Victor Sowa.

The women's team had participants finish in the top ten in twelve of the fourteen events that took place and had participants finish in the top five six times in those events. Individually, Lael Proffit (2nd 1650-yard freestyle 18:36.79) and Ryan Springer-Carter (2nd in 50 &100-yard freestyle) had the best finishes of the day. As a team, the Banana Slugs' best finish was 3rd in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Other standouts included Kenya Lam, Megan Burr, Elisabeth Lundgren, Sophia Sussman, and Mirelle Augst.

The next event for the Banana Slugs will be November 10th as they host CSU Bakersfield in Santa Cruz.
