THOUSAND OAKS (1-7) – UC Santa Cruz won a combined twelve events in their first dual meet of the 2017 calendar as they took on California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. The meet was a part of the Chris Knorr Invitational.
In the men's competition, the Banana Slugs had competitors finish in the top five in all fifteen events that took place. Individually, Wesley Whittlesey won two events (100 yard and 200-yard backstroke). Three participants, Casey Colella (100-yard breaststroke), Eli Cirino (3 Meter diving) and Jason Williams, won one individual event apiece. As a team, the Banana Slugs won the 400-yard medley.
The women's team had participants finish in the top five in all sixteen events that took place. Individually, Krystal Feri won three individual events (1,650 yard freestyle and 100 and 200 yard breaststroke). Ellen Curry won two individual events (200 yard butterfly and 200 yard individual medley). Laura Mendenhall won the 200 yard freestyle relay. As a team, the Banana Slugs' best finish was in the 400-yard medley as they won the event.
California Lutheran won the women's team competition 148-143 and won the men's team competition 144-143.
The next time the Banana Slugs will hit the pool will be January 21st as they take on NCAA Division II member Dixie State University in Santa Cruz.
