SANTA CRUZ (11-18) – UC Santa Cruz took part in its first dual match of the season as they took on Colorado College in Santa Cruz. The Banana Slugs had a strong performance from both teams and won 130-85.
In the men's competition, the Banana Slugs had competitors finish in the top ten in ten of the thirteen events that took place and finished in the top ten in all ten of those events. Individually, Eli Cirino (one meter and three-meter diving) won two events and six men (Alex Chenkovich (50-yard freestyle), Mason Emery (100-yard freestyle), John Lupu (200 yard butterfly), Spencer Reed (1,000 yard freestyle relay), Kyle Rovira (100 yard individual medley) and Jason Williams (200 yard freestyle relay)) won one event apiece. As a team, the Banana Slugs' best finish was in the 200-yard medley relay as they won the event.
The women's team had participants finish in the top five in all thirteen events that took place. Individually, three women (Kiara Calayag (100 yard individual medley and 200 yard backstroke), Krystal Feri (200 yard backstroke and 1,000 yard freestyle relay) and Ryan Springer-Carter (50 and 100 yard freestyle) each won two individual events. As a team, the best finish for the Banana Slugs was first in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The next time the Banana Slugs will hit the pool will be tomorrow as they take on NCAA Division II member Azusa Pacific University at UCSC Aquatics Center in Santa Cruz.
