Banana Slugs split on second day of Midwest trip

KENOWSHA,WI - UC Santa Cruz went 1-1 on the second day of their roadtrip to Wisconsin.

In the early game, No. 3 UCSC drooped a three-set loss to No,4 Carthage (20-25, 20-25, 19-25) in the morning match before rebounding and sweeping Concordia University Wisconsin (0-7)

In the early match against the hosts, UCSC hit a season low .000 as 28 attack errors canceled out 28 kills against the host Red Men. Carthage also served six service aces to none for the Banana Slugs, who also gifted the hosts with nine service errors. Raymond Cascio led UCSC with 9 kills. Lake Merchen and Ryan Manley each added 6.

The second match was a complete 180 as UCSC never let the Falcons get into a rhythm. The Banana Slugs had season-highs of hitting .476 and 10 services ace to improve to 10-2

Cascio again led UCSC with 7 kills on 8 attempts to go with 4 aces and an assisted block. Justin Fortner, Ian Pizzuti and Shad Harris each had 6 kills. Sam Wittert had a career-high 18 assists.

UCSC completes their weekend trip over the border in Illinois on Sunday as they take on North Central at 10:00am Pacific before facing fifth-ranked Dominican (Ill.) at 12:30.
