KENOSHA, WI -- UC Santa Cruz played their first match of the day as they took on Lakeland College. The Banana Slugs had fewer than ten errors in the match as the Banana Slugs swept the Muskies 3-0.
Most of the second set belonged to the Muskies. The Muskies would take the lead at 3-2 on an Alec Redlich kill. The Muskies' largest lead of the set was five on three occasions; the three occasion coming at 15-10 on a Redlich kill. The Banana Slugs would claw their way back into the set and would take the lead for good at 19-18 on a Muskies' service error. The Banana Slugs would take their largest lead of the set at three on three occasions, the third at set point on a Muskies' attack error. The Banana Slugs would win the second set 25-22 and led the match 2-0.

The Banana Slugs would expand their lead and take their largest lead of the set at eight on two occasions; the second coming at match point on a Lake Merchen kill. The Banana Slugs won the third set 25-17 and won the match 3-0.
For UC Santa Cruz, Jake Landel had a match high eleven kills and for Lakeland, Redlich had a match high eleven kills. Evan Kittle had twenty two assists for UC Santa Cruz and Jordan Smith had a match high thirty one for Lakeland. Both Jake Howard and Jake Hurwitz led the Banana Slugs with eight digs and Cole Aiazzi had a match high sixteen digs for the Muskies.
For the match, UC Santa Cruz had a .315 hitting percentage with the best percentage coming in the third set at .414 while Lakeland had a .262 hitting percentage with the second set having the best percentage at .297. The Banana Slugs had three fewer service errors (15-12) than did the Muskies.
The Banana Slugs will have only a couple hours to get ready for their next match as they will take on #1 Stevens Institute of Technology at 1:30 pm.
