In the second semifinal of Saturday, Carthage broke out to a 2-0 advantage before winning by a 3-1 set advantage. Set scores were 25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 25-18.

UC Santa Cruz Outlasts Rivier: Banana Slug's Advance to Saturdays National SemiFinals
UC-Santa Cruz, the second seed in the NCAA tournament, defeated seventh-seeded Rivier in a national quarterfinal match on Friday. The scores were 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 15-12.

Coach Todd Hollenbeck is Named CVC Coach of the Year
Todd Hollenbeck, head coach of the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, has been named the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Coach of the Year as voted on by CVC head Coaches.The Banana Slugs finished the CVC season by winning the conference tournament in a three-set victory over then ranked Number 1 team in the nation Carthage College.

UC Santa Cruz Qualifies for first NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship
The NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Committee announced Sunday the field of nine teams for the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship. This is the inaugural championship for Division III men’s volleyball.

La Cavera III named CVC Player of the Year
University of California, Santa Cruz outside hitter Salvatore La Cavera III has been selected as the first ever Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Player of the Year. La Cavera (Huntington Beach, Calif.), 6-1 junior outside hitter, was recently named to the CVC West All-Division team, averaging 4.18 kills per set and a .321 hitting percentage in West Division matches.

La Cavera named CVC West Division Player of the Week
Salvatore La Cavera III (Huntington Beach, Ca.), a junior outside hitter for UC Santa Cruz, has been named the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) West Division Player of the Week. In the first ever Western Division Challenge Weekend, La Cavera had 47 kills in three matches. For the week, he averaged 4.7 kills per set; hit .409 had .95 blocks per set and averaged 5.35 points per set.

Five Slugs Named to CVC West All Divsion Team
The Continental Volleyball Conference is the first NCAA Divison III nation-wide men’s volleyball conference with school’s from California to Virginia. The ten members of the CVC are Carthage College (Kenosha, Wis.), Eastern Mennonite University (Harrisonburg, Va.), Fontbonne University (St. Louis, Mo.) Juniata College (Huntingdon, Pa.), Milwaukee School of Engineering (Milwaukee, Wis.), the College of Mount Saint Joseph (Cincinnati, Ohio), Philadelphia Biblical University (Langhorne, Pa.) Stevenson University (Stevenson, Md.), Thiel College (Greenville, Pa.) and the University of California, Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz, Calif.).
