A familiar face will be charged with leading Banana Slug Men's Tennis back to the promised land.
Jimmy Soper was announced Monday as the new head coach of the UC Santa Cruz Men's Tennis team.
"I'm excited to introduce Jimmy Soper as the newest member of the UC Santa Cruz athletic department", said Banana Slugs Athletics Director, Susan W. Harriman. "Jimmy brings a fresh perspective, yet has a deep understanding of the successful history of the UCSC tennis program. We're thrilled to have him as our new men's tennis coach."
The fifth head coach in UC Santa Cruz's storied history, Soper played at UCSC from 2013-2016, first under coach Bryce Parmelly and then Christian De Jesus before graduating with a degree in Biomolecular Engineering.
He served last year as an assistant under Michael Napoli while also serving as a tennis pro at the Moraga Country Club.
"I'm very pleased to see Jimmy Soper take the reins as the next men's tennis coach," Napoli said. "Jimmy has an excellent understanding of the strategies and tactics that the game requires, as well as a good understanding of the academic requirements. He will be an outstanding addition to all the other outstanding coaches at UCSC."
