Fresno State defeats UC Santa Cruz in regular-season finale

FRESNO - UC Santa Cruz fell to Division I Fresno State 6-1 in their final dual meet of the regular season. 

It was played under Division I rules with the three doubles matches counting for one point, which Fresno State won two matches to one. No. 2 doubles of Sean Hollister and Chad Le Duff defeated FSU doubles team Patrik Pech/Youssef Hassan 6-1 in a "flawless match of precision and power" according to head coach Mike Napoli. The team of Alexander Flora and Ryan Gee lost at No. 3 doubles 6-2 to the Bulldogs' Mantas Bugailiskis and Zdenek Derkas. Chadwick Stone and Ryan Dugan fell at No. 1 doubles 6-4.

In singles play, Stone lost to Bulldog senior Euan McIntosh 6-1,6-0 at No. 1. Chad Le Duff fell to Derkas 6-1, 6-2 at 2. Sean Hollister lost 6-4, 6-1 to Bugailiskis at No. 3. Dugan fell to Pech 6-3,6-1 at No. 5 and freshman Sarthak Saxena lost 6-1, 6-3 to Bailey Gong at No. 6.

Flora took UCSC's only point winning 7-5 6-4 over Portuguese freshman Henrique Orosio. It was Flora's second win over a Div. I opponent this year and improved his singles record to a team-high 9-5.
"A.J. won a impressive match at 4 singles," Napoli said. "It was a great performance by all. I couldn't be more proud."


The Slugs return to action next weekend at the Ojai Tournament.
