Banana Slugs fall on road to Div. I Broncos

SANTA CLARA - In a makeup of a rainout, the UC Santa Cruz men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 meet to Santa Clara University at the Degheri Tennis Center.

THe Broncos got the doubles point when Connor Garnett and Robert Seby beat No. 1 team Ryan Dugan/ Chad Stone 6-4 while Sean Hollister and Chad Le Duff were beaten 6-2. A.J. Flora and Derek Levchenko were up 4-2 in their match before it was suspended.

In the singles competition, the Broncos swept despite being pushed by UCSC.

Stone, Le Duff and Levchenko fell in the 1,2 and 3 singles matches respectively. Jesus Barajas beat Sean Hollister in the No. 4 match 6-3, 6-1. Flora dropped the close No. 5 singles 6-3-7-5 to Greek Davis Cup player Vasileios Iliopoulos. In the No. 6 singles match, Ryan Dugan was edged by Kamran Khan 6-2,6-4

"We fought hard every point," said head coach Mike Napoli.  "We play  the toughest D.III schedule in the nation and these guys are learning every point. I couldn't ask for more."

The Banana Slugs continue their tough schedule when they host Div. I Nevada on Friday February 10th.
