Late goals spur Banana Slugs to 2-0 win over Albion

Second half goals by Jacob Myers Norys and Keith McCarty led UC Santa Cruz to a 2-0 win at home against Albion.

The Banana Slugs (1-3) won for the first time this year, while handing the Britons (2-1-2) their first loss.

After an even first half, the Banana Slugs attacked from the start and it paid off in the first :15 seconds when second-half substitute Myers Norys got a pass from fellow senior Cole Fox that put him one-on-one with the goalie. He calmly put it in the net for his first goal of the year and 18th in his UCSC career.

The game got more intense as Albion pushed ahead for the equalizer. However, McCarty put the game away in the 79th minute with his first goal of the year two minutes after coming on.

Goalkeeper Zach Lamb got four saves for the shutout in his first career-start.

Both teams took ten shots in the game, with the Banana Slugs having the slight edge on shots-on-goal (6-4).

The Banana Slugs get back in action on Wednesday September 12 when they visit Division II Dominican.
