UC Santa Cruz went to 2-4 after their second-straight win. Holy Names fell to 0-4.
UCSC got on the board in the 6th minute when Landen Gozashti cleared the ball out with a long pass over the top. It reached Myers Norys in the offensive third, who then turned and crossed it for Royall to slot it home to give the hosts a quick 1-0 lead.
UCSC doubled the lead in the 19th minute when Royall broke through the right wing and crossed it to Myers Norys for a goal.
The game went back and forth with both teams getting good looks at goal. UCSC almost added another in the 29th minute when Cole Fox's shot from 20 yards hit the crossbar. Myers Norys dove at the rebound, but his header was smothered by Hawks goalkeeper Rafael Calderon.
The Hawks had three shots saved by Christian Deguzman and another blocked as UCSC's defense held to keep the 2-0 lead at the break.
Ninety seconds after the restart, Holy Names almost got on the board but Connor Daugherty's free-kick was stuffed by the Banana Slug wall. Holy Names dominated possession but the UCSC backline and Deguzman held. UCSC countered and added another one in the 72nd minute for a 3-0 lead. Lukas Holocher sent a long pass which Durgerian controlled past a defender and looped it over Calderon.
Holy Names puled one back in the 86th minute when Carlos Vazquez-Perez's quick free kick flew in to end the shutout.
UCSC withstood a 21-8 shot disadvantage, but Holy Names could not get past Deguzman, who had a season-high nine saves.
The often-terse game featured 41 fouls between the two teams and six yellow cards. UCSC was whistled for five of them, including two in the last four minutes for dissent.
UCSC next plays on Friday when they welcome old rival Chapman to the Lower East Field.
