Men's Soccer Earn Many Accolades Among D3 Independents

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--- The 2014 All-Independent Men's Soccer teams were announced today by the Association of Division III Independents. 

 

Co-Offensive Players of the Year

Zach Hummel, University of California, Santa Cruz, SR, Forward, Palo Alto, Cal. – Hummel had seven goals and one assist. Blessed with tremendous strength and speed, Hummel was a marked player by all opponents. 

Taylor Pill, Maranatha Baptist University, SR, Midfielder, Watertown, Wis.—Pill led the AD3I with nine assists.  He also scored four goals and was the engine for the MBU midfield.

Defensive Player of the Year

Drew DeLozier, Maranatha Baptist University, SR, Defender, Watertown, Wis. – DeLozier, who was the Crusaders central defensive figure the past four years, also notched four goals and three assists this season. 

Goalkeeper of the Year

David Vivian, University of California, Santa Cruz, SR, Bakersfield, Cal.—Vivian allowed only 17 goals in 18 games.  He had 10 shutouts and a save percentage of .761.

 

Rookie of the Year

Beka Goduadze, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), FR, Forward, Tbilisi, Georgia (RUS). – Goduadze scored 11 goals and assisted on four more as the Bears completed their best season in school history.   

 

Coach of the Year

Michael Runeare, University of California, Santa Cruz.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of seven Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of eight other sports this year.
