Caltech uses second half run to beat UC Santa Cruz

PASADENA - One week after the teams met in another close game, host Caltech used a 22-4 run early in the second half to pull away from UC Santa Cruz in the Beavers' 74-65 win.

UCSC fell to 5-4 on the year while Caltech (1-5) broke a five-game losing streak.

Caltech opened the game hitting their first four shots in gaining a 10-4 lead. UCSC came back and took their first lead at 26-24 after two free-throws and a three-pointer by Kyle Creighton.

The close game had three lead changes and three ties. UCSC was up 31-29 at the half, but then came the Beavers' big run that gave them a 51-35 lead with 11:13 to go. 

Tre Weston and Will Crain led UCSC with 13 points each. Creighton added 9 points and 10 rebounds. Spencer Schneider led four Caltech in double figures with 18 points and a team-high 6 rebounds.

The Banana Slugs finish their roadtrip Sunday afternoon at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
