
OVERLAND PARK, KS. --- Trey Bardsley, a junior guard from Nebraska Wesleyan University, was named the player of the year as the All-Independent Men's Basketball teams were announced today by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I).
Bardsley, a native of Beatrice, Nebraska, averaged 23.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game along with 3.9 assists and 2.0 steals per game in 25 games. The guard was a three-time AD3I Player of the Week and was Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of January.
In addition to Bardsley, the other members of the first team include David Louison, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn); Michael Megafu, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn); Jared Ponce, University of California, Santa Cruz; Travis Giesselmann, Nebraska Wesleyan University; Chase Vicaire, University of Maine-Presque-Isle and Brady Moses, Maranatha Baptist University.
Kevin Collins, a freshman guard from University of Maine-Presque Isle, was named the rookie of the year after averaging 12.0 points per game on the year.
Joseph Cocozello and Dale Wellman were named co-coaches of the year. Cocozello led St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) to an 18-10 mark, while Wellman guided Nebraska Wesleyan University to a 13-13 record.
The All-Independent Men's Basketball teams were selected by the men's basketball coaches from AD3I member schools.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of seven Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of eight other sports this year.
